So… we made a blog. But before you roll your eyes and say to yourself, “Oh great, yet another Utah couple’s blog,” just wait! I promise there’s a point! Plus neither of us are actually from Utah, so this really doesn’t even count as “another Utah couple’s blog.” Right??
One year ago, Brady started churning. No, not the butter kind – the credit card kind. He found a page on Reddit called “Churning” where all these crazy guys from all over the world come together and collaborate about free travel. They share which credit cards to apply for and when, depending on that card’s sign up bonus at the time. They teach each other how to hit minimum spends, since most guys sign up for several cards at a time, but could never spend enough money in the first three months to actually earn those sign up bonuses. They write detailed posts, explaining exactly how to transfer sign up bonuses to flight miles and hotel points. They share their travel experiences and inspire each other to get more cards, earn more points, and take their wives on more vacations. Needless to say, Brady was hooked. At first he dabbled, but after a few months he became a regular.
Meanwhile, I was over here being a major hater. I think my exact words to Brady were, “Tell your fellow cyber nerds they’re wrong.” I just couldn’t believe this stuff was true! If people could really travel for free, then why wasn’t everyone doing it? Aren’t credit cards of the devil? “Just great,” I thought, “now we’ll never have a decent enough credit score to buy a house one day.” I even joked about the IRS knocking on our door in the middle of the night and taking Brady away in handcuffs, because there had to be a catch! You guys. There really isn’t.
THERE IS NO CATCH! Yes, it takes time and planning and lots of keeping track of dates and payments. But I am telling you this for real – if I can do it then literally anyone can. After a year of seeing more places than I thought I’d see in a lifetime, I am a believer. And hopefully some way, somehow, in some blog post or Instagram picture, we can help other broke kids like us have experiences that last forever.
So this is our blog. Brady will teach you his mythical, money man ways through posts about credit cards and other money-saving travel tips, and I will do the fun stuff – travel guides, vacation pictures, and testimonials of other credit kids who are reaping the rewards of churning!
Oh! And please be patient with us 🙂 We do not claim to be professional photographers, videographers or writers. But after hours of research and more than a year of trial and error, we do feel somewhat qualified to teach others how to safely use credit card points to travel the world on a newlywed/college budget. Whether it’s questions for us or ideas on how to make our delivery better, any and all feedback is more than welcome!
